Today is the very first National Sickle Cell Awareness Day in Canada.
I am very proud to have sponsored Senator Jane Cordy’s Bill S-211, The National Sickle Cell Awareness Day Act. I’m not sure I realized how much this Bill would matter to so many Canadians across the country – but it does.
Together we can raise awareness of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). And we can advocate for improvements in its diagnosis and treatment.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of celebrating the efforts of folks from across Canada who have advocated to make National Sickle Cell Awareness Day a reality. During debate on this Bill, it was an honour to bring their voices to Parliament Hill and help make this day happen.
I hope you’ll take a moment to learn more about Sickle Cell Disease. At home, the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Nova Scotia does incredible work. And the The Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada – Scdac/aafcis a great resource for all Canadians.
This is just the beginning.
