I am hearing complaints about a healthcare promotional booklet that was mailed out by the Houston Conservative Government, using the Department of Health and Wellness’ resources, on the eve of their snap election call.
Several months ago, our federal government signed an agreement to provide the Government of Nova Scotia with an extra $355 Million for serious health care improvements in the province. (This is on top of increased health transfer payments)
Too many folks here in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour are still waiting for a family doctor or other primary care provider. I continue to hear from folks that their loved ones are waiting too many hours in over-burdened emergency rooms.
And I’m even hearing that seniors are spending nights there in crowded hallways. It’s not right.
The additional funding we’ve provided is to help the province:
- Ensure better access to primary health care
- Reduce wait times and backlogs
- Provide better access to mental health services
It’s important to me that folks here in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour and across the province see meaningful action on healthcare.
Every effort should be made to ensure the Department of Health and Wellness makes meaningful progress to improve wait times in emergency rooms, ensures that all Nova Scotians have access to the primary health care they need when they need it, and that everyone has better access to mental health care.
