Over the weekend I joined members of the Somme Branch Legion #31 and our community to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
On June 6, 1944, more than 14,000 brave Canadians stormed the beaches of Normandy. They fought with courage and determination—many making the ultimate sacrifice—so future generations could live in peace and freedom.
Canada’s role in D-Day was critical to the Allied success, and it stands as one of the most significant military efforts in our history. Today, we remember the bravery, the loss, and the incredible legacy of those who served.
Thank you to Somme Branch #31 for hosting this powerful ceremony, and to all who continue to honour the memories of our heroes.
We will remember them.
