On Sunday we commemorated the 85th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, at 12 Wing Shearwater.

85 years ago, the skies over Britain became the frontline battle for freedom. Canadian pilots flew alongside their Commonwealth allies, helping to defend Britain against overwhelming odds.

In the summer of 1940, Canadians took to the skies in Spitfires and Hurricanes, engaging the Luftwaffe in fierce battles that would determine the course of the war. They achieved hard-won victories, suffered painful losses, and proved their skill and courage in Britain’s hour of need.

Together with their allies, they helped halt Hitler’s invasion plans. Britain endured, and Canada’s contribution remains a proud chapter in our history.

We remember their courage and sacrifice, 85 years on.

Lest We Forget.
