Teachers in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour are so special.

Huge congratulations to Dartmouth High School’s Shane MacLeod, who has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement in the 2025 Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence in STEM.

Shane is an innovative physics and environmental science teacher who makes STEM come alive for his students. He designs inclusive lessons that reflect the diverse backgrounds of his classroom, helping every student feel represented and capable. Through hands-on experiments, creative tools, and mastery-based learning, he encourages students to think critically, collaborate, and express their understanding in meaningful ways.

His commitment extends well beyond Dartmouth High—championing STEM opportunities for girls and for Black and African Nova Scotian youth, supporting national science competitions, and training physics teachers across Canada and internationally. His work has strengthened classrooms, communities, and the next generation of STEM leaders.

A well-deserved honour for a teacher who empowers students to see themselves in science.

Thank you, and congratulations Shane!
