I feel like a broken record, but please, if you are travelling outside of Canada, register as a Canadian Abroad.
It takes just a few minutes, and it allows the Government of Canada to contact you in the event of an emergency where you are travelling.
If you are currently in Mexico, or heading there, please make sure you have registered your travel with Global Affairs Canada here: https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/registration
As you may have heard, travel advice related to incidents of violence in various parts of Mexico has been updated.
If you are currently there:
- Avoid affected areas
- Keep a low profile
- Limit your movements as much as possible
We strongly encourage you to consult Government of Canada travel advice regularly for the latest updates:

If you need urgent help while abroad, the Emergency Watch and Response Centre (EWRC) in Ottawa is available 24/7
- Call: +1 613-996-8885 (collect calls accepted where available)
- Text: +1 613-686-3658
- WhatsApp: +1 613-909-8881
- Signal: +1 613-909-8087
- Email: sos@international.gc.ca
For Canadians in Mexico requiring emergency consular assistance, you can also contact the Embassy of Canada to Mexico in Mexico City during business hours:
- phone: +52 55-5724-7900
- email: mxicocs@international.gc.ca
It is one small step that can make a big difference if something unexpected happens.
Please share this information with anyone who may be travelling!!
