When it comes to ending homelessness, you need to bring housing AND health care together.
In Budget 2026, we’re laying out a path to end homelessness within the next decade. And we’re backing it with nearly $30 billion to do just that. (Read Budget 2026 here)
As you know, we’ve delivered a lot of affordable housing here in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour, including deeply affordable housing with wrap-around supports, rent-geared-to-income housing, below-market housing, and non-profit-owned housing that will remain protected and affordable for generations to come.
Site work is well underway at Shannon Park for hundreds more homes. We’re also delivering dozens and dozens more affordable homes for the YWCA at Mount Hope Village.
We must do more.
We can’t take our foot off the gas. We’ll continue working to make a meaningful difference for people in our community.
There is more affordable and non-market housing on the way, and Budget 2026 will help get those projects across the finish line.
You can find information on some of the affordable housing that we’ve already announced and delivered here in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour here:
P.S. – I really appreciated seeing this new measure in Budget 2026
“Build community mental health and addictions facilities: Budget 2026 proposes to provide $2 billion over two years, starting in 2027-28, for the Health Infrastructure Fund. Facilities funded will provide care before people reach a crisis point, helping address the mental health and substance use challenges that are contributing to homelessness, instability, and growing pressures on communities across Canada.”
