There’s nowhere in Nova Scotia that’s more than 67kms from the ocean. The ocean is an incredible economic driver and opportunity for our region.
Our Government believes in companies like Dartmouth’s LeeWay Marine- a company that provides support for rapid environmental response, ocean technology testing & research, surveys and more.
Last Friday I visited the Centre for Ocean Ventures & Entrepreneurship – COVE and announced that the Government of Canada is providing a repayable contribution of $290,600 to Leeway Marine so they can upgrade their “Striker” vessel, which will add a system to launch and recover autonomous underwater vehicles.
The underwater vehicle being used, called the “Katfish”, uses underwater imaging technology that provides ultra-high resolution imagery at superior coverage rates to other products on the market.
These improvements will help Leeway Marine grow, and develop additional markets overseas, while contributing to our ocean economy.
