HURRICANE DORIAN:
Like you, I’m hoping that Hurricane Dorian will stay away, however, it seems more and more likely that the storm will impact Atlantic Canada. So it’s important that we take precautions and are prepared!
You can find Environment Canada’s hurricane projections here: https://weather.gc.ca/hurricane/track_e.html
The Minister of Public Safety let me know that the Government of Canada’s Government Operations Centre is monitoring this situation closely, and they’re liaising with provincial counterparts.
The Government of Nova Scotia’s Emergency Management Office is currently tracking the hurricane and they are preparing for its effects.

We’ve heard that Nova Scotia Power will be opening their Emergency Operations Centre at noon tomorrow in preparation for the storm. They’ve mobilized close to 1,000 personnel to respond as needed. Nova Scotia Power issued this statement on Hurricane Dorian earlier today: https://www.nspower.ca/…/news-releases/prepared-for-hurrica…
Are you and your family prepared for a hurricane?
The Department of Public Safety has a website devoted to making sure you ‘Get Prepared’, and it’s worth reading.
Does your family have an emergency plan? Do you have what you need in case we’re without power for a few days?

The Halifax Regional Municipality has issued a statement asking residents to get prepared for this storm. They’ve reminded us that “the largest threat to homes and property is flying debris.”
And they suggest that constituents “move umbrellas and patio furniture inside and remove anything that high winds could pick up such as garbage, flower pots, toys etc.”

I hope that you and your family take all necessary precautions during this storm. A false alarm would be most welcome, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
