Just Announced: Extra support for seniors

We know that it can be tough to stock up on groceries, extra cleaning supplies, and other essentials while on a fixed income.

And some low and modest income seniors let me know that a boost, similar to the extra Canada Child Benefit payment would make a big difference during this difficult time.

– We’re delivering a one-time tax-free payment of $300 for seniors eligible for Old Age Security (OAS).

– And seniors who also qualify for the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will receive an extra one-time $200, tax-free payment ($500 in total).

This builds on other support measures we introduced in response to COVID-19, like the one-time GST top-up (benefitting 4 million seniors), and investments in community organizations that provide essential services to seniors.
