COVID-19 Vaccine Update!

To begin, it’s great to see that the Province of Nova Scotia has been administering vaccines in Phase 1 of their COVID-19 Immunization Plan, including to those most vulnerable in long-term care.

Loved seeing photos from LTC residents in Dartmouth-Cole Harbour getting those shots! And the province recently announced that the 1st community-based clinic for Nova Scotians age 80 and older will begin later this month as Nova Scotia’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues to expand. Starting next week, the vaccine roll out will ramp up!

Canada will be receiving tens of thousands of doses of Pfizer vaccine. And several million more are on the way! We received an updated delivery schedule from Pfizer, which means that with both Pfizer and Moderna, Canada will have 6 million doses of vaccine by the end of March!

It’s expected that Canada will receive a total of 23 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine by the end of June. And 84 million doses by the end of September!

And folks, this is just Pfizer and Moderna.

Health Canada is also reviewing other vaccine candidates, such as AstraZeneca. But even without additional approved vaccines, we’re still on track to have enough vaccines in this country for every Canadian who should and wants to receive one by the end of September.

It will be up to the provinces and territories to get these doses into arms, and I expect we’ll hear more updates from the Government of Nova Scotia, in due course! I’m ready to roll up my sleeve when the time comes!
