Last month, our Government took the most significant step forward to protect the rights of persons with disabilities in 30 years with the introduction of the Accessible Canada Act: An Act to Ensure a Barrier-Free Canada!

Canada benefits when all Canadians can fully participate, and this Act will ensure that the Government of Canada is taking a proactive approach to help fight systemic discrimination across all areas of federal jurisdiction, and help move Canada towards a future without barriers for our fellow citizens.

To demonstrate our commitment to the Accessible Canada Act, our government will be investing over $290 million over the next 6 years to help make federal buildings more accessible for all Canadians. Additionally, the Act will legally require that people with disabilities are consulted and allowed to participate in the decision-making process any time legislation might directly impact their lives.

The Accessible Canada Act is a positive step towards helping the millions of Canadians who have a disability feel like they belong by building a more accessible Canada.
