As we mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I’d like to take a moment to share these photos from the HRM Archives with you.

Back in 1959, HM Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip toured every Canadian province. And while on tour, they visited Dartmouth!

While visiting Dartmouth Town Hall on Wyse Road, they met with Dartmouth officials. Unfortunately, the Mayor at the time, I.W. Akerley was unwell that day, however his wife attended at Dartmouth Town Hall to greet HM, along with the Moirs, Barss, Zatzmans, Bezants, Crooks, Granfields, Dares’, and Beazleys.

They also stopped by the Dartmouth Ball Park, now known as Beazley Field, to meet with the public.

The black and white photos were taken by Benjamin Studios Dartmouth. The colour photos are uncredited, and were likely taken by a municipal photographer.

Other than the Dartmouth officials, the photos are not captioned. Do you recognize anyone in the photos?
