First things first. Need to brave the line up for Port City at Alderney Market, no Saturday can start without my java. It’s the season of Craft shows too! One at Woodlawn United and one at Saint Thomas More. There were others but I ran out of time. Hope you all are enjoying this [...]
This week marks the 50th Anniversary of the engine room explosion and fire aboard the HMCS Kootenay. We remember and honour the 9 crew members who died and the 53 injured. We also honour the remaining crew members who through their professionalism did everything they could to keep the ship secure and afloat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6njwhzoUvQ&feature=youtu.be [...]
Our Government's Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program has a big impact on our community. Not only does this program provide job opportunities with meaningful work experience for young Canadians, it provides local non-profit organizations and small businesses with funding to employ young people! It was nice to visit with the folks at the Dartmouth [...]
I joined my colleagues Andy Fillmore, Ralph Goodale, Bernadette Jordan, and Harjit Sajjan to learn more about the devastating impact Hurricane Dorian has had on Nova Scotians and their properties. Ministers Goodale and Sajjan provided updates on the Government of Canada's support and response to the damage from the storm. We took the time to thank all of the [...]
There are a lot of volunteers and folks in our community who selflessly work hard for others. A little while ago, I had the opportunity to recognize a few of Dartmouth-Cole Harbour's champions. Warren Wesson is the founder of the Dartmouth Shelter Society, the group running Dartmouth's new overnight emergency shelter. A strong [...]
Our Government is engaged, and we’re coordinating efforts across all orders of government to make sure Atlantic Canadians are prepared and safe. Earlier today, Deputy Mayor Tony Mancini, MLA Tim Halman and I visited the East Dartmouth Community Centre as it’s one of three emergency shelters open across the municipality during Hurricane Dorian. We thanked the folks [...]
I love visiting the Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club! The 2019 Atlantic Bowls Championship started last night, and it was great to welcome everyone to Dartmouth-Cole Harbour. Founded in 1987, the Dartmouth Lawn Bowls Club is an important part of our community. Hardworking volunteers are the reason this club is so successful. They've built a community [...]
HURRICANE DORIAN: Like you, I'm hoping that Hurricane Dorian will stay away, however, it seems more and more likely that the storm will impact Atlantic Canada. So it's important that we take precautions and are prepared! You can find Environment Canada's hurricane projections here: https://weather.gc.ca/hurricane/track_e.html The Minister of Public Safety let me know that the [...]
Wishing all of the students, teachers, parents, support staff & school volunteers in Dartmouth-Cole Harbour a very happy first day of school! Special shout-out to Ava on her first day in grade 11 at Dartmouth High! Only one left in high school.
