Like I always say, companies in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour are doing big things! Especially companies like Mara Renewables!

A few years back I delivered a repayable contribution through ACOA to Mara, to help them improve efficiency, cut production costs, and take advantage of new market opportunities for their high-quality algal omega-3 oil. Since then, they’ve continued to innovate and grow—here in Dartmouth!

In the past, omega oils were mostly fish-based products, but Mara’s DHA-rich fatty acids come from their incredible portfolio of microalgal strains! Yes, algae! They grow the marine algae sustainably ashore and then extract the algal oil for use.

Their products are used in infant nutrition products and in food and beverage supplements.

Mara just managed to complete a multi-million-dollar equity raise to rapidly expand. It’s so good to see investors believing in the incredible work Mara is doing here in Dartmouth. So proud!
