Burnside is a truly special place. And as a councillor I had the pleasure of touring companies here and representing the area.
The park is filled with innovative, smart businesses worth investing in. Now as the Member of Parliament for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour I have the honour of representing and advocating for our riding on a National stage.
From investments in small businesses like Atlantic Bottle Wash- to taking care of some or most treasured not for profits and veterans groups- much deserved funding has made it to Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Growth Strategy. And because of this, we’re building a vibrant economic future for our region.
If there’s one industry that’s booming here in Nova Scotia- it’s the craft beer industry.
Nova Scotians love their beer. But they’re really embracing local microbrew. With the successes of Propeller, Garrison, Unfiltered, Nine Locks and more- it’s only natural that there would be a strong demand for washed glass bottles- for growlers!
I love recycling. When I heard about Atlantic Bottle Wash I was more than a little excited. Andre and his team recognized that microbreweries for the most part couldn’t afford to have their own bottle washing equipment due to associated costs.
But they also noticed that Atlantic Canadian Microbreweries wanted green options. They want to recycle- for environmental and economic reasons. Recycled bottles cost microbreweries 35 cents less than new. Over time that’s huge savings.
This is why I’m so pleased to announce that the Government of Canada will invest $250,000 in Atlantic Bottle Wash through ACOA’s Business Development Program.
This repayable investment will assist ABW in collecting returned bottles in our region from Enviro-Depots- in sorting, washing, palletizing and re-selling the recycled bottles to microbreweries. This is an amazing example of the green economy. Clean tech projects help diversify our region’s economy by opening new markets while reducing carbon emissions.
The Government of Canada believes that public investment is needed to create and support sustainable growth, economic opportunity and prosperity in Canada.
The Atlantic Growth Strategy helps us nurture smart businesses like Atlantic Bottle Wash and help them make a huge impact in the clean tech sector.
This is another amazing example of how we can take action on climate change by reducing pollution while building a strong and sustainable Atlantic economy.
While our ever-growing craft microbrew sector continues to boom- I look forward to seeing more businesses like Atlantic Bottle Wash find clean tech opportunities to help our environment and boost our economy.
