So great to have the Prime Minister join us for the 2023 North American Indigenous Games Canoe/Kayak kick-off ceremony on beautiful Lake Banook in Mi’kma’ki!
It was a true honour to join Mi’kmaw Chiefs for a paddle across the lake to the ceremony. And it was very special to take part in a smudging and learn more about Mi’kmaw culture and traditions from the many amazing conversations I had this morning.

It is so fitting to have #NAIG2023 take place on Lake Banook. The Shubenacadie waterway, which includes Lake Book (Panuk), has been a very important transportation route for the Mi’kmaq since time immemorial.
