My Private Member’s Bill, C-238, ‘The National Strategy for Safe and Environmentally Sound Disposal of Lamps Containing Mercury Act’, became law back in June.
A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to share my passion on this important issue with attendees at the National Forum on the Development of a National Strategy for Safe and Environmentally Sound Disposal of Lamps Containing Mercury.
In attendance were industry & environmental stakeholders, Indigenous governments, municipalities and more. I had the opportunity to explain why this strategy matters to me and why it should matter to all Canadians. I also had the opportunity to share the inspiration behind it.
The attendees brought their expertise on this issue to the table – and brought forward recommendations on public awareness and education, data measurement and reporting, and finally, best practices and guidance for environmentally sound end-of life of these bulbs.
I can’t wait to read the reports and data collected from the National Forum. I am very proud to see this strategy moving forward across Canada!
