Recently, CBC did a piece to highlight to work of Byrony House shelter for women and children.
The video offers a rare look inside Bryony House to reduce the stigma associated with seeking shelter.
Back in 2019, we announced funding to help build Bryony House Shelter in Dartmouth. Although I wish it wasn’t necessary, this shelter is crucial. Each year, over 500 women and children stay at the shelter, and many more women are provided with crisis support and advocacy.
From delivering funding to provide better housing support for Survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Nova Scotia through the Canada Housing Benefit, and to organizations who support those experiencing GBV and Survivors—we must continue to work with other orders of government to provide the support that is needed to address this serious issue.
Thank you to everyone who works with Byrony House / Halifax Transition House Association for the important work you’re doing to support women and children in our community.
