Today I was joined by MLA Joyce Treen and Housing Nova Scotia at the Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre.
I announced $7.8 million in funding to give Nova Scotians more access to affordable housing and to support independent living!
The funding announced today will go towards three existing programs and will help seniors and people with disabilities be able to live independently.
Our Government believes that all Canadians deserve access to housing that meets their needs and that they can afford. When it comes to building an inclusive society where all Canadians have opportunities to succeed, housing matters.
Building on Budget 2016’s commitment of $2.3 billion in new housing investments to address immediate challenges over two years, #Budget2017 proposes to invest more than $11.2 billion over 11 years, in addition to preserving the baseline funding related to expiring social housing agreements.
These investments are for initiatives designed to build, renew and repair Canada’s stock of affordable housing and help ensure that Canadians have housing that meets their needs.
That’s why the Government of Canada also made a commitment to develop a National Housing Strategy – the first in 40 years.
Last year, we completed an extensive, four-month consultation process in which we reached out to Canadians, housing experts and stakeholders, Indigenous communities, municipal leaders and others to learn how we can achieve better housing outcomes for Canadians.
Let’s congratulate everyone involved in this program enhancement- especially Housing Nova Scotia for their vision and support in getting this funding underway. Now seniors in Dartmouth will have better access to independent living programs.
