I just announced a $228,476 investment to NSCC Akerley Campus, for the Pathways to Shipbuilding for African Nova Scotians project, under the new Skilled Trades Awareness and Readiness program!
This incredible program is through the Irving Shipbuilding Centre of excellent and supports 20 African Nova Scotian students through the Pre-Apprenticeship Welding Diploma program at NSCC.
I had a chance to meet the apprentices, and they’ve named their class “20 for 20”, and together they’re making sure every student graduates the welding program.
After they graduate, these students will become part of the Irving Shipbuilding team. As you know, the Halifax Shipyard is building and maintaining ships for Canada’s Navy. And they’ll build ships for the Canadian Coast Guard!
