I stopped by 1 Oak Street in Dartmouth this morning with Ministers Joanne Bernard, and Tony Ince to make an announcement on affordable housing!
We want to ensure that people in communities across the province have access to safe, affordable, stable housing.
That’s why I announced today that we are investing $18.08 million in rental supplements to help low-income families and seniors across Nova Scotia. Through the Rental Supplements Program, more than 400 low-income families and seniors will benefit from affordable rental housing.
Our Government believes that all Canadians deserve access to housing that meets their needs and that they can afford. When it comes to building an inclusive society where all Canadians have opportunities to succeed, housing matters.
As you may know, the Government of Canada also made a commitment to develop Canada’s first comprehensive National Housing Strategy. Last year, we completed an extensive, four-month consultation process in which we reached out to Canadians, housing experts and stakeholders, Indigenous communities, municipal leaders and others to learn how we can achieve better housing outcomes for Canadians.
Canadians want better housing outcomes, especially for those who need the most help. If people have an affordable, stable home to call their own, then they have the means to continue their education, find employment and support a family.
