Today, I announced the sale of the Downtown Dartmouth Marine House property under the Federal Lands Initiative, so it can be turned into affordable housing! (176 Portland Street)
In the hands of the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Society, this surplus federal property will be redeveloped and transformed into over 60 safe and supportive homes.
It’s no secret that this building remained empty for far too long, and I’ve advocated for years to see this property become affordable housing.
Since Marine House first became surplus, we’ve improved the process to make federal lands available, along with funding opportunities to redevelop the properties/buildings into housing!
The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Society will work with its partners to deliver and operate this affordable housing redevelopment in Downtown Dartmouth.
