Hi folks, I just arrived back home after a great renewable energy announcement with PM Justin Trudeau out at Fraser Valley Farms in East Hants.

It’s no secret that almost 75% of Nova Scotia’s electricity comes from fossil fuels. And we know that to reach our climate goals, and to help get Nova Scotia off coal, we need to be ambitious. We need good partners, and we need to invest in clean energy projects like wind, solar and hydroelectric.

That’s why the Prime Minister announced a new federal investment of up to $255 million to deliver clean power to homes across Nova Scotia, creating hundreds of good jobs in the process! (Hello cleaner air!)

Up to $125 million will support new wind energy projects, providing clean power to around 350,000 homes in Nova Scotia, and will create hundreds of good jobs, and deliver benefits to local Indigenous communities, including jobs and training.

Up to $130 million will be used to help install batteries to store clean energy at four sites across the province!

Love that this means Nova Scotia will have one of the largest battery systems in all of North America! This funding will help Nova Scotia meet its goal of achieving 80% renewable energy by 2030.
