This morning, I had the honour of joining Veterans, volunteers, and supporters at the official opening of HMCS Sackville for the season.

What a beautiful ceremony—and what a powerful reminder of our naval history and the brave Canadians who served at sea.

Commissioned in 1941, Sackville is the last surviving corvette from the Battle of the Atlantic. She protected convoys, faced off against U-boats, and helped turn the tide of the Second World War.

Today, thanks to the hard work of so many, she stands proudly along the Halifax waterfront as a living memorial—a tribute to the thousands who served, and to those who never made it home.

Back in 2018, the Government of Canada partnered with the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust to help restore Sackville—preserving her for generations to come.

To all the Veterans, volunteers, and Canadian Naval Memorial Trustees—thank you. Your dedication keeps this legacy alive.

Lest we forget.
