It was a real privilege to spend a couple of hours with the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, along with my colleagues Mark Gerretsen and Emma Harrison.
His mind is a steel trap. He had us completely captivated as he shared stories from his decades in politics, from global events he witnessed firsthand, to Canadian issues and memories from his time in the House of Commons.
Being able to ask questions, hear his advice, and simply listen to someone who has lived through so much of our country’s political history was incredibly special. Leaders like him do not come along very often.
And when you think he is just going in for a handshake, well… let’s just say there’s a lot of Shawinigan in that grip. I think my feet may have left the ground for a second.
An unforgettable afternoon with a true giant of Canadian politics and one of the greatest Prime Ministers Canada has known.
