I’m a Member of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security, and we just tabled our report on Systemic Racism in Policing in Canada.

It’s no secret that Canada’s institutions, most which were born from colonialism, were designed with the cards stacked against Black, Indigenous and racialized people. And we know that this systemic racism continues to persist in these institutions, like the RCMP, the justice system and in police departments across the country.

The government has been paying close attention to our study, and as our government continues to work towards a more inclusive country, we must ensure that transforming these institutions is at the forefront.

Our report’s recommendations will be helpful, not only for the Government of Canada, but for all orders of government, and all police departments across the country. I am calling on all orders of government to step up and tackle this issue within their respective jurisdictions.
