UPDATE ON NATIONAL PHARMACARE!

I’m so excited about this!!!!

As you know, I firmly believe that no one should have to choose between putting food on the table or paying for the prescription drugs they need.

That’s why I’m a strong advocate for national universal pharmacare—and it just moved forward in a BIG way!

PEI just became the first province to sign on to our plan to accelerate the implementation of national universal pharmacare. Will Nova Scotia be next?!

Just like with our Canada-wide affordable childcare plan, I can’t wait to see the provinces and territories sign on, one-by-one and join us!

This is a long time coming. We’ve been working hard on the strong foundation for national pharmacare, including:

  • Commissioning the landmark report from Dr. Eric Hoskins, which outlined the steps required to build a national pharmacare system across Canada
  • Establishing the Canada Drug Agency to coordinate the purchase of essential drugs in bulk with the provinces and territories at lower costs
  • Developing a new national formulary for identifying a comprehensive list of prescription drugs needed in Canada and ensuring access is equal across the country
  • Investing $1 Billion over two years and up to $500 Million per year moving forward to improve access to high-cost drugs for rare diseases
  • Changing Canada’s Patented Medicine Regulations to bring down the cost of drugs

Do you believe in national universal pharmacare?
