Today we gathered at cenotaphs across the country.
Poppies on our chests.
Pride in our hearts.
In Dartmouth—Cole Harbour, at the Sullivan’s and Cole Harbour cenotaphs, large crowds gathered to show our immense respect for those who’ve sacrificed so much to safeguard our peace and security.
You can see how deeply proud our community is and how very grateful we all are to those who have served and those who continue to do so.
This free and democratic country that we live in was born of the sacrifice of those who came before us. And it is the duty of every Canadian to take a moment to remember.
The women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces have been instrumental in restoring and maintaining order and security in countries where conflict has raged. We rely on them here at home to respond to natural disasters like Hurricane Fiona or other difficult situations that require their expertise.
Today we give thanks to those who have served on missions at home and abroad. And we remember that in the service of these missions, hundreds of thousands of our own have given their lives. They are in our minds and in our hearts as we gather to remember them.
Throughout the crowd you could see so many young people. And I know, that from generation to generation, we will never let their memory fade. We will remember them.
To the families of our fallen, to our Veterans, and to the current members of the Canadian Armed Forces—please accept our profound gratitude for your service and sacrifice.
Lest we forget.
