Joined by Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor, I just announced a $1 million investment through ACOA to Dartmouth’s NOVONIX!
You’ve heard me say it time and time again, companies in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour are doing incredible things! And when it comes to clean technology, companies here are leading the way.
Novonix, started back in 2013 as a project out of Dr. Jeff Dahn’s lithium-ion battery research lab at Dalhousie University. I remember back in 2019, when we announced significant funding to help them grow in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour, and they grew so quickly that they grew out of that space and moved over to Bedford. And now we’re welcoming them back to an incredible space over in Burnside.
Today’s announcement will help them purchase specialized equipment to be used at their new Burnside pilot facility where they’ll produce lithium-ion battery materials in a cost-effective and more environmentally friendly way!
We’re helping NOVONIX purchase key pieces of equipment for a demonstration project so it can take the next step – determining if the new technology can be scaled up for mass production. And with the addition of cathode materials, NOVONIX would become a producer of the three main components of lithium-ion batteries while positioning Canada as a leader in the industry.
This will not only help meet the expected growth in demand for batteries, but also strengthen our supply chains, and safeguard the future of Canada’s EV industry as the world seeks to cut emissions.
