Folks, late last night we voted to make Audrey Parker’s final wish a reality in Canada. Bill C-7, which includes Audrey’s Amendment, passed.

As many of you know, due to the unintentional flaws in the original MAID legislation, Audrey chose to die by MAID earlier than she wanted to—simply because the legislation didn’t reflect the real-life situation that many Canadians are faced with.

I’ve heard from other constituents and their loved ones who shared similar stories. And I am grateful that the House of Commons was able to pass this thoughtful Bill, which includes sensible and compassionate amendments.

I know that MAID is a deeply complex and personal issue for many—but this framework is the best approach to ensure that dying patients who are suffering unbearable pain have the choice of a peaceful death, while the vulnerable remain protected.
