On Dec 6th 1917, when the SS Imo collided with the explosive laden SS Mont Blanc, the cities, towns and villages around Halifax Harbour were changed forever.
Around 2,200 people were killed and more than 10,000 were injured.
Nice to see so many people gathered at the Dartmouth North Mont Blanc Cannon site, for the annual Halifax Explosion ceremony.
“Hold up the train. Ammunition ship afire in harbour making for Pier 6 and will explode. Guess this will be my last message. Good-bye boys.”
– Vince Coleman, Train Dispatcher
