On National Flag of Canada Day, we celebrate our flag. More than a symbol, it reflects who we are at our best: strong, compassionate, and deeply proud of the country we share.

This year, the day carries both heaviness and pride.

As we hold Tumbler Ridge in our hearts, and our flags may stand at half-mast in remembrance, we are reminded of the care and solidarity that bind Canadians together in moments of loss.

At the very same time, we are also coming together, cheering on Canada’s Olympic athletes as they carry our flag onto the world stage, representing the very best of our determination, talent, and spirit.

Our flag has always held space for both. For grief and for hope. For remembrance and for pride.

And today, it does so once again.
