JUST ANNOUNCED:
On behalf of Patty Hajdu, the Minister of Health, I announced nearly $3.5 million to help expand the MySafe Society safer supply project to five sites in four cities across Canada: Vancouver and Victoria, London, and here in Dartmouth.
We know that here in Nova Scotia, there are signs that the illegal drug supply is becoming more toxic. Right across Canada, this toxic supply is putting more people at risk for fatal overdoses—especially if they use drugs alone.
Safer supply projects offer people with opioid use disorder a life-saving alternative to the toxic illegal drug supply.
Dartmouth’s Dispension Industries developed a secure, biometric machine (it looks a bit like an ATM), where people can collect their prescribed medication. These accessible machines work especially well for individuals who may not otherwise enroll in a safer supply program. There is no fear, stigma or judgement.
Thank you to everyone working on the MySafe Society safer supply project—together we can support Canadians who use substances and help save lives.
