Hi folks. I hope that you’re making out okay. Our family doesn’t have our power back, but we are feeling very fortunate after this terrible storm.
My heart goes out to the folks who were evacuated from an apartment on Lawrence Street, and everyone who has been struggling through this storm. Our friends in Cape Breton and other parts of Atlantic Canada have a long, long road ahead, and my thoughts are with them.
I want you to know that our Government is here for Nova Scotia and for all provinces that need our help. We’ve been in regular contact with the Premiers and First Nations communities from affected provinces and we are here to support as needed.
Nova Scotia requested federal assistance from our Government and we swiftly answered the call. We’ve been mobilizing Canadian Armed Forces personnel and equipment to help with what’s needed. Thank you Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ministers Bill Blair and Anita Anand for your support on this.
I am so grateful for all of the first-responders who have been working so hard to support our communities before, during, and after this storm. Thank you for everything.
And I also want to thank our community… I want to thank Nova Scotians. From setting up charging stations for neighbours in your own home, to offering free warm meals, and hot showers for others—your kindness will never be forgotten.
Folks are showing the very best that this place has to offer. Let’s keep it up. Let’s continue to check in on our neighbours and do what we can to help each other out.
The HRM Twitter account is posting the latest on emergency shelters and comfort centres: https://twitter.com/hfxgov I’ve been told by the municipality that the comfort centre locations are based on where the largest number of citizens without power are located. And they are constantly being evaluated and modified.
In case you missed it, all schools in HRM are closed on Monday, September 26th due to outages.
As you may have seen from photos across social media, there are still many trees and power poles down. Many lines on the ground. Please treat every line like it is live! Stay away from them, and any trees that may be resting on them.
I’ve been retweeting resources available in our community at https://twitter.com/darrenfisherns
And if you’re able, the Red Cross is accepting donations to help provide humanitarian assurance to the impacted areas:

Be safe everyone!
