The assault on Vimy Ridge began at 5:30 am on Easter Monday, April 9, 1917. It was the first occasion on which all four divisions of the Canadian Corps attacked as a composite formation. Today we planted a #Vimy oak at Sullivan’s Pond in Dartmouth as we near the 101st anniversary. Thanks to John Harrison and those who organized this event. To have a mighty Vimy oak, a descendent of the one remaining Vimy Oak surviving the battlefield 101 years ago, means a great deal. I’m proud to have this tree take its place near the Cenotaph at Sullivan’s Pond for years to come.
