This year marks many important anniversaries.

The 100th anniversary of Canada’s Hundred Days and the Armistice, the 65th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, the 10th anniversary of National Peacekeepers’ Day, and the 75th anniversary of the invasion of Sicily and the beginning of the Italian Campaign in the Second World War.

30 brave Canadians and Newfoundlanders received a Victoria Cross for defending freedom during Canada’s Hundred Days, from August 8th to November 11th, 1918-. That’s nearly 1/3rd of all Victoria Cross recipients in our military history.

The courage and the valour of those who served in the first half of he 20th century is reflected in the continued tradition of service by today’s Canadian Armed Forces.

They deserve to be honoured and remembered.

I hope you’ll consider joining our community this Remembrance Day at one of our local cenotaphs. I will attend the Dartmouth ceremony at Sullivan’s Pond.
