Good news!
Starting Jan 1st, seniors and other Canadians will receive reduced taxes through an increase to the Basic Personal Amount!
- When fully implemented, this tax reduction will benefit 4.3 million seniors, including 465,000 whose federal income tax will be reduced to ZERO.
We know that seniors deserve to be safe, respected and to live in dignity. - From investing an additional $6 billion in home care, to restoring the age of eligibility for Old Age Security to 65 years from 67 years, and increasing the Guaranteed Income Supplement by almost $1,000 for single seniors—we’ve been there for Canada’s seniors.
- And we’re doing everything we can to help provide Canadian seniors with additional financial security and the support they need to get through this pandemic. Through one-time payments in April and July, we provided over $1500 in tax-free support for low-income seniors couples.
- And although long-term care is regulated by the provincial and territorial governments, we are working together to better protect residents and staff. We are training 4,000 personal support worker interns through an accelerated online program. And we’ve created a $1 billion Safe Long-term Care Fund to help the provinces and territories protect folks in long-term care!
