As you know, I’m not a very partisan person, I’m more about focusing on what we can do to work together to better support our communities.
But every time I hear the Conservatives talk about how if they were in our shoes they would make deep cuts to services, I think back to their plan to take two years worth of pensions from seniors. Two years.
Seniors worked so hard and paid into their pensions and don’t deserve to see them cut! I’m glad we were able to reverse this reckless policy.
As soon as we formed government, we restored the age of eligibility for OAS & GIS back to 65 from 67. And then we boosted and enhanced the OAS & GIS to better support seniors through their retirement. We invested in home care and in other programs to help seniors stay in their communities as long as possible.
Why? Because it was the right thing to do then, and supporting seniors is the right thing to do today.
