Downtown Dartmouth is so good that it’s getting harder to remember the rough patch it went through.
I remember my Nanny behind the counter at Fisher’s Stationary, just as her time on Portland Street was ending, watching new entrepreneurs begin to take a chance on our downtown again. She remembered, and I remembered, just how good Downtown Dartmouth had been and how much potential it had.
When I first became a Member of Parliament, we still had to really encourage people to try Downtown Dartmouth again, to support local. To get out and explore the incredible new businesses and rediscover the older. A lot has changed!
This past weekend, as I walked down Portland Street for Dartmouth Open Street Sunday, Downtown Dartmouth was electric. The vibe from the crowd was so positive. So many people came up to me, bursting with pride, and wanting to talk about the Globe and Mail article, “The It-List: Canada’s coolest neighbourhoods”, where Downtown Dartmouth is featured prominently on the list!
The Globe and Mail article got it right, Downtown Dartmouth is definitely “buzzing with rejuvenation and a new entrepreneurial energy”.
Who do we have to thank? Everyone who believes in Downtown Dartmouth. Everyone who continues to go downtown and #SupportLocal.
I am thankful for the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission who tirelessly organizes events, creates beautiful spaces, and promotes our outstanding businesses. Thank you to all the incredible entrepreneurs who took a chance on Downtown Dartmouth, especially those who did so back when it was wasn’t quite so “cool”.
Here’s to you Downtown Dartmouth!!
