Yesterday’s healthcare announcement was huge.
Nova Scotians and all Canadians deserve a publicly funded healthcare system that’s there for them when they need it.
Emergency rooms that are open and able to help when they need it.
Surgeries that are scheduled and take place when they need it.
I want you to know that the Government of Canada is prepared to make the largest healthcare investment in Canada’s history.
Although healthcare falls within provincial jurisdiction, we know that the provinces and territories need us at the table, ready to assist. Yesterday, the Prime Minister sat down with premiers from across Canada to discuss a path forward to improve health care for Canadians.
NOW: The Prime Minister announced an immediate $2 billion top-up to the provinces and territories to help address urgent healthcare needs in emergency rooms, pediatric hospitals like the IWK, and to help reduce surgery backlogs.
OVER THE NEXT DECADE: A $196.1 billion increase to healthcare funding for the provinces and territories to better support patients and health care workers.
We’ll also keep working with the provinces and territories on agreements to address shared priorities, like improving:
- Surgery backlogs and staffing shortages
- Family doctor and nurse practitioner shortages
- Mental health and substance abuse supports
- Access of healthcare data to ensure you – and your healthcare providers – have easy access to your results
From funding to support better pay for Personal Support Workers, and better access to quality mental health support—you can learn more about the whole announcement here: https://pm.gc.ca/…/working-together-improve-health-care-can…
