I want to tell you about one of my favourite places in Dartmouth. Founded back in 2009, the MacPhee Centre for Creative learning (MCCL) is near and dear to my heart.
Every day youth slip through the cracks. Some youth struggle and drop out of our school system each year. It’s a terrible thought I know, but there is a lot we can do about it.
The MCCL is a non-profit training centre for youth (12-19) who aren’t thriving in a typical classroom environment and are deemed at risk of dropping out. The centre is also for youth with barriers to accessing creative learning opportunities.
It’s all about connecting youth with passion and purpose. This is a space where respect is paramount. Where youth can explore their creativity and find empowerment.
The MCCL works to bridge the learning gap by offering great programs like music, visual arts, videography, creative writing and technology.
The space is beautiful and inspiring! The moment you walk into the centre you’re impressed by its beauty. I am so proud that we have this wonderful space located in downtown Dartmouth. When we inspire youth and instill the need for life-long learning- we empower them. Centres like this improve our community for years to come.
Thanks again to MCCL Executive Director, Heather MacDonald for taking us on another tour. Your hard work and passion for what you do is appreciated. What an amazing place!
