Today we launched Build Canada Homes, and I’m proud that Dartmouth—Cole Harbour is one of the first communities prioritized for new factory-built housing on federal lands. (More info to come)
We know far too many people are struggling to find a safe, affordable home. Build Canada Homes is about tackling that challenge head-on.
This new federal agency will:
- Build deeply affordable and community housing for low-income households.
- Help fight homelessness by building transitional and supportive housing in partnership with provinces, municipalities, and Indigenous communities.
- Protect existing affordable rentals through a new $1.5 billion Canada Rental Protection Fund, so that families don’t lose the homes they already depend on.
- Use modern construction methods to build faster and more cost-effectively, while creating good jobs in Canadian industries like lumber and steel.
For Dartmouth—Cole Harbour, this means more affordable homes, more quickly, including on federal lands right here in our community.
We are stepping up with urgency, with scale, and with a commitment to make sure that everyone has access to a safe, affordable place to call home.
