I’m truly honoured to be appointed Chair of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP), and deeply grateful to Prime Minister Mark Carney for placing his trust in me to serve in this important role.

In a time of rising global instability and evolving threats to Canada’s safety and sovereignty, the work of this multi-party committee has never been more important.

NSICOP brings together Members of Parliament and Senators from across party lines to provide independent, non-partisan oversight of Canada’s national security and intelligence activities, including the work of the Communications Security Establishment, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

By reviewing the activities of these agencies, NSICOP helps ensure that Canada’s security framework remains effective, accountable, and firmly rooted in our democratic values and the rule of law.

I look forward to working with my colleagues on this vital committee to help strengthen the trust Canadians place in our institutions and to help ensure that our country is safe, secure, sovereign, and guided by democratic principles.
