So great to have my colleague and pal, MP Peter Fragiskatos here to meet with incredible Community Volunteer Income Tax Program volunteers, and to announce more funding to support free tax clinics across Nova Scotia!!
This special group of volunteer tax preparers go above and beyond to help folks file their taxes. Folks like, Adebukola Shogbamu of the YWCA who recognize that struggling to file taxes is a social barrier for those most vulnerable in our community.
I firmly believe that allocating new funding to volunteer community organizations dedicated to assisting vulnerable Nova Scotians with their taxes is a great step towards social equity.
And by removing barriers and facilitating access to benefits and programs, we can foster a stronger sense of inclusion and uplift the members of our community who need it the most.
Huge thanks to Halifax Public Libraries Chief Librarian and CEO Asa Kachan for hosting us today. Libraries play a crucial role in our community that goes far beyond just books. And so many community libraries across Canada, including right here in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour, host these free-tax clinics. Thank you for all you do!
