I’ve been made aware that there are folks spreading fear over Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine supply. This is simply not the time for petty partisan politics. This is not a time for fear mongering.
This is the time for all of us to work together, to do everything we can to keep each other safe. And I want you to know that our Government has your back.
- Canada has already delivered more than 1.1 million vaccines to the provinces and territories, with more on the way. Canada is among the top five G20 nations for COVID-19 vaccinations.
- We share the urgency of Canadians to ensure access to life-saving vaccines as soon as possible. And I can confirm that Minister Anand—our Government—is operating with this sense of urgency every day. While some may focus on petty politics, we are focusing on getting vaccines to Canadians, now.
- It’s important to remember that in this volatile global marketplace, we knew that there would be bumps in the road and we’ve accounted for delays.
- You know, even if no additional vaccine candidates are approved by Health Canada, we are on track to receive 6 million vaccines by the end of March, 20 million between April and June, and a total of 70 million doses by the end of September!
- This means that every Canadian who should receive a vaccine, will be able to by the end of September. That’s the same timeline that the US and UK have said they will be able to vaccinate everyone.
In the meantime, let’s do our best to continue doing everything we can to keep each other safe! Don’t forget to wash your hands, keep 2 meters apart from others outside of your bubble as much as you can, and wear a mask when appropriate.
You’ve got this! We’ve got this.
