On Friday we officially welcomed the ‘Rita Joe’ as the newest Halifax Harbour ferry!
Rita Joe was a Mi’kmaw poet, songwriter and author from Cape Breton. She wrote about her time at the Shubenacadie Indian Residential School, and about preserving and honouring Mi’kmaw culture. A Member of the Order of Canada, Rita Joe was one of the few non-politicians called to the Queen’s Privy Council.
The Government of Canada contributed $6,035,000 to help replace the final two Halifax Transit ferries.
As you know the Dartmouth Ferry is the best cruise in town, and investments like these will help ensure its reliability for years to come!
