IMG_3724I had the pleasure of welcoming the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, Patty Hajdu to UA Local 56 in the Dartmouth Woodside Industrial Park.

Unions play an important role in training their members for careers in the trades. Employers, unions and the Government can work together to help Canadian workers enter the workforce.

Minister Hajdu is known and respected within her community for her work on substance use issues, harm reduction, housing, and public health. She’s a strong advocate for issues of equality, serving as Minister of Status of Women from November 2015 to January 2017. And as our Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, she is dedicated to making sure that Canadians get the skills they need to get good jobs.

Minister Hajdu is touring the country to meet and chat with Canadians about what our government is doing to support them. I’m so thrilled she stopped in Dartmouth today!

This morning we watched (and took part in) welding demonstrations and learned more about the sprinkler fitting training program offered at UA Local 56. I loved hearing from some of the apprentices about the work they do!

Really great morning!
