We know that Canadian courts are clogged with charges for minor administrative offences, many of which are unrelated to protecting the public. At the same time, they have a disproportionate impact on vulnerable Canadians, including visible minorities, who are more likely to be charged and convicted for minor breaches.

We’re working to put a stop to this.

Our government is committed to ensuring consistency and compassion across Canada’s criminal justice system, while continuing to uphold both the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights. We are proposing a new tool that will boost efficiency and provide more discretion on administration of justice offences.
