Canadian Armed Forces Members coach our hockey teams, military families are our neighbours, Cyclone Helicopters fly overhead from 12 Wing Shearwater, and our friends are building our Navy’s fleet.

Folks here in Dartmouth—Cole Harbour deeply care about our military and want to see our Canadian Armed Forces Members and their families better supported.

It’s no secret that after a decade of destructive cuts and closures made by the previous Conservative government, military spending was was so low and Veterans Affairs offices were shuttered.

When we formed government we reopened the Veterans Affairs offices and we increased defence spending by 70%—but it’s still not enough.

The world has changed. The security threats faced by Canada are rapidly changing. We MUST do more. I’ve been pushing for more.

We’re investing an EXTRA $8.1 billion in defence spending over the next 5 years through ‘Our North, Strong and Free: A Renewed Vision for Canada’s Defence.’ ($73 billion over the next 20)

That means we’ll have nearly tripled Canada’s defence spending, giving our troops the tools they need to defend Canada, while ensuring our sovereignty here at home—especially in our Arctic.
